The Process

How We Make Your Jail Wedding Happen

Marrying an incarcerated loved one involves rules that change from facility to facility — and a lot of paperwork most people have never seen. That's exactly what we take off your plate. Here's what the journey looks like from your side.

We Talk It Through
A short, private call. Tell us the facility and your situation — we'll tell you what's possible.
We Get You Approved
We know each facility's requirements and handle the request so your wedding can move forward.
We Handle the Paperwork
Notary visit, marriage license, and every required document — managed for you, correctly, the first time.
The Ceremony
A licensed officiant performs your marriage at the facility, within its guidelines.
It's Official
We file your license with the county so your marriage is legally recorded and you receive proof.

Don't Give Up Hope

Been Told It Can't Be Done? Call Us First.

Many couples come to us after another officiant, a county clerk, or the facility itself told them their wedding was impossible. In a great many of those cases, it wasn't. We specialize in the situations other people walk away from.

No valid ID for the inmate?

One of the most common roadblocks — and one we know how to navigate. In most cases we can still move forward. Call us and we'll tell you what's possible for your situation.

Tight timeline or special circumstances?

Medical situations, transfers, immigration matters, looming court dates — we've handled them. The sooner we talk, the more options you'll have.

Not sure where to even begin?

That's the most normal place to start. There's nothing to prepare before your call — just reach out and we'll guide you from there.

What we handle for you

  • Getting your wedding approved by the facility.
  • The marriage license and all required paperwork.
  • The notary visit and the ceremony itself.
  • Filing your license with the county so it's official.
  • No valid ID for the inmate? Don't stress — we have solutions. Just call us.

Identification

Acceptable IDs for a Jail or Prison Wedding

To get married, the partner who is not incarcerated needs one valid, unexpired, government-issued photo ID. California accepts IDs from anywhere in the world — here are the most common ones we see.

U.S. Driver's License or State ID

From any of the 50 states — it does not have to be a California ID.

Passport

A valid passport from the United States or any other country is accepted.

Permanent Resident Card

Your green card works as a valid government-issued photo ID.

Matrícula Consular

The consular ID card issued by your country's consulate is accepted in California.

Foreign Government ID

A national ID card or driver's license from your home country. We can help with translated documents.

Military ID

A valid U.S. military or Veterans Affairs identification card.

Worried about ID? If you're not sure your ID will work — or the incarcerated partner has no ID on file — don't give up. This is one of the most common questions we get, and we almost always have a solution. Call or text us at (213) 933‑2507 and we'll walk you through it.

Common Questions

Jail & Prison Wedding FAQ

The questions we hear most from families planning a wedding for an incarcerated loved one.

Can you really marry someone who's in jail or prison?

Yes. We coordinate legal marriages for incarcerated people at most county jails and state prisons across Southern California, and we handle the whole process for you.

What if the inmate doesn't have a valid ID?

This is one of the most common concerns we hear, and in most cases it's not a dealbreaker. We have solutions. Call us and we'll let you know what's possible for your situation.

How long does the whole process take?

Usually a few days to several weeks, depending on the facility and approval timelines. The sooner we start, the better.

Do you handle both county jails and state prisons?

Yes — both, across Southern California.

Do we have to figure out the paperwork ourselves?

No. That's the whole point of working with us. We handle the approval, the marriage license, the required documents, and the filing.

Are there hidden fees for mileage or weekends?

No. Every situation is different, so we give you a clear, personalized quote up front — no surprise mileage, after-hours, or weekend surcharges.

Do all facilities allow weddings?

Most county jails and state prisons do. Some federal and ICE facilities have restrictions. Tell us your facility and we'll advise you honestly.

How soon do we get the marriage certificate?

After the ceremony we file your license with the county. The certified copy typically arrives by mail within a few weeks, depending on the county.
